after these long days moving through the humidity, she stops to talk with me, and rocks the thoughts of my stagnant mentality. she proceeds,
“do-gooders
and go-getters
usually find
their success
at the expense
of
oth
ers.”

“i’m an other,
so what am i
to do?”

with
a you-know-what
to-do gaze,
she simply says,
“say
you’re
welcome.”

“but
everyone
is
welcomed
here.”

and that’s when we all learned the difference between taker and leaver.
