the story of two cholla cacti in the paqui well de the story of two cholla cacti in the paqui well desert.

when they transpired as foxes frolicking in their own sacred silence, it was obvious the cholla cacti’s presence was within the spirituality of the Desert Fathers — the essence of their monastic life. they loved each other’s company sunsight to sunclipse, day in, day out. they engaged in many discussions, light, deep, and everything in-between. listening to the winds and weathering the seasons, they understood their lands revolved around the giant fire planet a few times before they discovered that they still did not know each other as well as they thought they should. there is such an intimate connection between the way we look at things and what we actually discover. many times they thought they were alike. their stars and signs aligned, even having similar interests, appearance, and emotions. still there was so much more to know, but as they sauntered through life, none of that mattered. it was fine to just be. this monastery will teach all things. the way it was, was the way it was. they knew enough to know they were safe. their poetic energy sang opening from and returning to silence. and one day one said, “you’re fun.”

“you’re fun,” replied the other.
